JKTECH ACKNOWLEDGED AS A LEADER IN MINERALS AND ENERGY IN THE PREMIER OF QUEENSLAND EXPORT AWARDS

JKTech has been recognised as a global provider of innovative technologies to the international resources industry, by taking out the coveted Minerals and Energy Award announced at The Premier of Queensland’s Export Award in Brisbane last night on 24thOctober.   The Minerals and Energy Award is presented for outstanding international success in the production of primary processing of extractive and value-added minerals or energy products, technology, equipment and services to the minerals and energy industries.

As the commercialisation company for the research centres of the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) at the University of Queensland, JKTech has access to industry's latest research outcomes. This is a unique relationship combining SMI’s acknowledged research expertise with that of JKTech’s to deliver solutions in all areas of the life-of-mine cycle, including the increasingly critical areas of risk, safety, social responsibility and sustainability.  This combined wealth of knowledge and expertise provides the enablers for the mining industry to optimise processes which increase throughput and productivity and leads to more sustainable projects, contributing to Queensland’s standing as a major global supplier.

JKTech’s industry achievements were evident in being acknowledged as a winner or finalist in four out of the twelve industry award categories.  In addition to winning the prestigious Minerals and Energy Award, JKTech was announced as a finalist in three other categories resulting in the following final tally:

JKTech is dedicated to assisting the mining industry to meet its objectives in conducting environmentally responsible operations with initiatives such as SUSOP, a new technique for the management of sustainable links and interactions in the key areas of safety, water, environment and social responsibility.  In November last year, SUSOP, won an international award, the Sustainable Technology Award by the Institution of Chemical Engineers in Manchester, UK recognising its innovative approach to helping resource companies improve their contribution towards achieving sustainable development.  JKTech is proud to have our focus on environmental solutions also acknowledged in Queensland at the Export Awards.

For many years, JKTech has supplied software products developed to encapsulate the results of 40 years of comminution and classification research at the JKMRC that has been used for decades to design and optimise the performance of crushing and grinding circuits.  JKTech’s software products include those for flotation, mass balancing and rock fragmentation through blasting.  Our significant world-wide sales are testimony to the broad application and effectiveness of our software products.

Contributing to Queensland’s exports by providing services in construction and infrastructure of mining projects globally, JKTech was pleased to record a 34% increase in export revenue which accounted for more than 50% of its overall revenue in 2012. This positive outcome was a result of JKTech’s consistent delivery or leading-edge solutions for the mining industry, intensified in-region marketing initiatives combined with a growing online presence.

In response to the Awards results, JKTech’s CEO, Dan Alexander commented:

“As a long-standing contributor to growing the Queensland export market with its delivery of innovation in the mining industry, JKTech is very proud to have been acknowledged in The Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards in 2013 as winner of the Minerals and Energy Award and as a finalist in three other categories.  We acknowledge the high calibre of the other nominees in all categories with such inspiring contributions to the Queensland economy with their export successes.

We would also like to congratulate The University of Queensland as winners of the Education and Training Award and Blast Movement Technologies for winning the Information and Communication Technology Award.   Blast Movement Technologies, a company which was formed using The University of Queensland created and JKTech licensed Intellectual Property, provides technologies reducing ore loss and dilution.  This is a demonstration of the University of Queensland’s contribution to the Queensland’s economy as a leader of innovation resulting in world-class exports.”

As a state finalist, JKTech is now an entrant in the 51st Australian Export Awards where it will be judged alongside other state and territory winners in the Minerals and Energy category from which a national winner will be selected on 26th November, 2013 in Melbourne.
