Comminution ’14 Technical Programme Now Online

The 9th International Comminution Symposium (Comminution ‘14), organised by MEI in consultation with Prof Malcolm Powell (JKMRC) and Dr Aubrey Mainza (Centre for Minerals Research, UCT), is on track to be the biggest event in the series. With 4 months still to go before the start of the event in Cape Town all of the exhibition space has sold out. Booths have been taken up by companies including Metso, Russell Mineral Equipment, Keromos, and Outotec. There has also been a great deal of interest shown in sponsoring next year’s event (see below), with a total of 23 sponsors so far.

The technical programme has just been published on the event’s web site at www.min-eng.com/comminution14/. Prof. Tim Napier-Munn, of the JKMRC/JKTech, will present the first keynote lecture "Is progress in energy-efficient comminution doomed?". Alan Muir, Vice President Metallurgy at AngloGold Ashanti, South Africa, will present the second keynote lecture "The next stage of evolution in comminution" and Dr Wolfgang Peukert, Director of The Institute of Particle Technology at the University of Erlangen, Germany, will present the 3rd keynote lecture "A multiscale view on comminution".

The technical programme is supported by a healthy social programme, with an opening wine reception the evening before the start of the event, where delegates can also register their arrival, thereby avoiding the morning rush. After the first full day of technical papers, delegates will be able to wind down in the hotel’s gardens with a glass of wine at the ‘Happy Hour’. The second evening will involve a trip to Cape Town’s GOLD restaurant for the conference dinner. Day 3 will see another ‘Happy Hour’ in the gardens, whilst the end of the conference will be marked by a closing coffee and wine reception.

Comminution ‘14 is sponsored by TOMS, Starkey & Associates, King's Ceramics & Chemicals, Keramos, Polysius, FLSmidth, Magotteaux, CHEMCO Advance Material, Grintec Advanced Materials Technology, Industrie Bitossi, Eirich, Metso, Cenotec, Russell Mineral Equipment, Grinding Solutions, Outotec, CITIC Heavy Industries, DMM, First Quantum Minerals and SELFRAG. Media sponsors are International Mining, Industrial Minerals and AT International. Please contact Jon Wills at This email address is being protected from spambots.
