Cape Town CEEC Workshop at Comminution 2016

April 10, 2016 8:45 am – 12.15 pm

Course Overview

Mineral processing can use up to 50% of the energy consumed on a mining site. CEEC is a global industry-funded, not for profit organisation advancing awareness of best-practice mine site and processing strategies to improve energy efficiency. These proven practices can reduce costs and increase productivity and profit, and reduce the environmental and social footprint of mining.

This workshop will review the practices available to improve processing efficiency, from mining operations through to mineral processing and smelting. Procedures to benchmark energy use against other operations and to track the impact of changes using the CEEC energy curve will be discussed.

Attendees will become familiar with the CEEC energy curve and how to benchmark your own performance. Examples of practices to improve efficiency will be discussed, along with techniques to find the improvement potential at your site.

Discussions will include:

• What can be done to improve the efficiency without changing the flowsheet?

• Where to look for processing efficiency improvements.

• What is the financial impact of these changes?

Presenter: Joe Pease, CEEC Chair, CEO CRC-Ore, Key Note speaker at Comminution 2016.

Joe Pease has over 30 years’ experience in the minerals industry, in research, projects, operations management, and technology commercialisation and support. This included involvement in the development of several new technologies to significantly improve processing efficiency. He spent over 10 years managing complex metallurgical mineral processing and smelting operations.

Joe is currently CEO of the Cooperative Research Centre for Optimising Resource Extraction. This multi-million dollar programme aims to achieve a step change in industry productivity and energy efficiency, by developing techniques to integrate flowsheets and exploit ore characteristics, from ore block model to final metal. Before then, Joe was the Chief Executive of Xstrata Technology, which developed and commercialised several technologies for the global minerals and metals industry.

In addition to Chairing CEEC’s Board for the past 2 years, Joe serves on several industry bodies, including the Board and Executive Committee of AMIRA and the Steering Committee of the Australian Minerals Education Partnership, and served on the Boards of the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre and the Ian Wark Institute Advisory Board. Joe also works as a specialist consultant to the minerals industry.
