CEEC International Secures Funding from the Grantham Foundation

We are thrilled to announce that CEEC International (Coalition for Minerals Efficiency) has been awarded significant funding by the Grantham Foundation. This funding will enable CEEC to advance our mission to accelerate the adoption of eco-efficient minerals and metals production practices. These funds, distributed over the next three years, will assist in growing CEEC, reinvigorating our in-person workshops, furthering the Global Water Initiative, and launching our next project on Tailings.

CEEC International is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to minimising the impact of mineral production. By promoting eco-efficient practices, sharing knowledge, and fostering cross-sector collaboration, CEEC supports the global resources sector in providing the essential minerals and metals for society with reduced water use, emissions, and waste. CEEC’s unique global reach offers access to research findings, analytical tools, site information, and innovations aimed at reducing energy and water consumption, and other environmental impacts associated with the mining, processing, and refining of minerals.

Janine Herzig, Executive President of CEEC International, stated, "The Grantham Foundation’s investment aligns with its desire to secure future copper production and support the clean energy transition. This funding will help CEEC enhance its technological development initiatives and address the economic, social, and environmental challenges of under-developed copper deposits as well as the other minerals and metals that are required. By focusing on emissions reduction, water management, and tailings minimisation, CEEC will help to enhance and unlock the development of lower-grade and water-restricted copper deposits.”

CEEC has established trust and goodwill over more than 12 years with industry professionals, researchers, and other stakeholders. Its broad network of volunteers and sponsors, combined with its independent approach, positions CEEC as a leader in facilitating free access to information for the benefit of society. The organisation’s proven track record includes successful initiatives such as the Advanced Energy Curves, which benchmark energy efficiency in comminution circuits, and the Global Water Initiative, aimed at shaping sustainable water management practices in the resources sector. Additionally, CEEC awards the annual CEEC Medal to recognise excellence in technical research and operations.

While this support is crucial, maintaining and expanding sponsorship is vital for CEEC’s continue success. As a not-for-profit, CEEC has always maximised our resources efficiently, and the ongoing support will help CEEC leverage this new funding, ensuring we can continue to expand, sustain our resource centre, collaborate with industry, and celebrate innovation through the CEEC Medal. CEEC is committed to fostering collaboration within the industry to drive progress and achieve our shared goals.

CEEC International looks forward to utilising this funding to drive innovation and sustainability in the resources sector, reinforcing our commitment to a more eco-efficient future.
