CEEC International Excels at the MetPlant Conference, Advocating Eco-Efficiency and Launching the Global Water Initiative

CEEC International, a global charity dedicated to the adoption of eco-efficient minerals and metals production practices, made a significant mark at the MetPlant 2023 Conference held in Adelaide, Australia. This significant international event, spanning from November 5th to 8th, showcased the organisation's commitment to sustainable mining and resource extraction, with a particular focus on water efficiency and tailings management.

On the first day of the MetPlant 2023 Conference, CEEC International met a significant milestone by officially launching the Global Water Initiative (GWI). The GWI aims to address one of the most critical sustainability challenges in the resources sector – water consumption and management. It is a testament to CEEC's commitment to collaboration and best practice - reducing the environmental impact of mineral and metals production.

A panel discussion, titled “Water Management: Context and Boundaries”, moderated by CEEC International Director Philip Bangerter, was one of the conference highlights. The panel featured industry experts and thought leaders, including Laurie Reemeyer, Ingrid Oyarzun, Nadja Kunz, Neville Plint, and Angelica Amanda Andrade. Their diverse perspectives and individual experiences provided valuable insights into the complex issues surrounding water in mining, and attendees left with a deeper understanding of the importance of responsible water management and the aims and objectives of the GWI.

CEEC International's active presence at the conference was not limited to panel discussions. Delegates also had the opportunity to engage with CEEC staff and volunteers at their exhibition booth, where the Global Water Initiative was further discussed, and solutions for more sustainable water usage were explored. The CEEC booth became a hub for knowledge-sharing and networking, reflecting the organisation's core mission.

Furthermore, CEEC International took a pivotal role in promoting collaboration by sponsoring the Collaboration Lounge. The lounge encouraged delegates to network, share experiences, and work together to drive the adoption of eco-efficient practices in minerals and metals production. Collaboration, a cornerstone of CEEC's mission, was at the forefront throughout the event.

A celebration of the CEEC Medallists also took place at MetPlant 2023, building on the initial ceremony at the SAG Conference a few months earlier in Vancouver, Canada. Highly Commended recipients in the Operations category, Alan Varghese and colleagues were presented with certificates to commemorate their paper titled “

CEEC International's significant presence at the MetPlant conference, known for its theme of “World’s Best Practice in Metallurgical Plant Design and Operation”, along with the active participation of several CEEC Directors, reaffirms their leadership role in promoting positive practice in the resources sector internationally. By establishing forums for open and candid exchange of views and experiences, CEEC International is actively shaping the future of eco-efficient mining practices.

In summary, CEEC International's participation in the MetPlant 2023 conference in Adelaide was a resounding success – launching the GWI, leading an insightful panel discussion - underscoring CEEC's commitment to the mission and vision. By advocating for responsible water management, CEEC International is paving the way for a more sustainable and environmentally conscious resources sector.

CEEC International looks forward to participating in MetPlant 2025 which is expected to take place in Adelaide, Australia for the second time in the events’ history from 21 to 24 September 2025.
